watercolor pen and ink on 140lb coldpress

This two-part series is a pointed reflection on the nature of memory and shared experiences. Though both pieces originate from a single image of a meal shared over a campfire, they are separated by a physical gap created during the painting process. This intentional void acknowledges that even our most vivid recollections of exploration contain moments that exist only in the space between what was seen and what was felt.

Inspired by time spent in remote landscapes, these pieces capture the primitive comfort of fire and food. The use of watercolor and ink allows for the fluid light of a red firepit and flame to contrast against a pale green background. It is a tribute to the “time away” and the rituals of grounding that occur when community is built in the quiet, unrecorded moments between the highlights.
